FOCUS RS III TUNING

We received our first Focus RS in April 2016 and immediately began the work developing our performance enhancements. In January 2017 we received our second new RS, which has allowed us to accelerate this process.

Living with the RS on a daily bases we feel we have produced a series of upgrades that will significantly enhance the cars many strong points and remove some of the frustrations.

We have tested our products on our in-house dyno as well as famous race tracks like Silverstone and the Nurburgring to insure we can provide the very best in reliable performance.

After receiving our first RS we were asked by Cobb to help with their Beta testing. We have worked with Cobb Tuning for many years, as they have been our main supplier of Porsche and BMW calibration tools. The Cobb Accessport V3 and ProTuner software is extremely powerful and comprehensive and will form the basis for all our RS upgrades.

All the Cobb Accessport V3s come pre-loaded with Off The Shelf (OTS) maps from Cobb, which offer a conservative first upgrade based on US fuel octane ratings. We've been working on our own Stage 1 tunes for some time now, using our in-house development cars. All of the RS Accessports we supply will come with our own calibrations pre-loaded.

We have developed two simple performance packages which will help you extract just the right amount of performance from Ford's excellent 2.3L Turbo engine. Careful attention has been paid to how torque is delivered to ensure a smooth power deliver, great driveability and minimise component stress.

Stage 1 - 385 bhp / 385 lbft

Our Stage 1 ECU recalibration gives a peak power increase from 345 bhp (350 ps) to 385 bhp (390 ps) with torque increasing from 350 lbft (474 Nm) to 385 lbft (522 Nm). There's an additional 40 bhp over standard at 5,400 rpm and torque increases everywhere you need it most, with 47 lbft @ 2,000rpm increasing to 51 lbft @ 2,900 rpm, giving a much quicker response. To ensure the very best setup, our maps have been honed on our own two Focus RS with over 15,000 miles of both road and track testing across Europe.

Package includes:

  • Increased power and torque over standard and US Cobb OTS maps
  • Reduced lag with faster throttle response
  • Improved driveability
  • Pre-loaded for easy of use
  • 3 Switchable Maps using the Cruise Controls for instantly changing between between UK grade 95 Unleaded, 97 Octane Super Unleaded and 99 Octane Tesco Momentum / Shell V-Power Nitro
  • Anti-Theft Mode to help secure your pride and joy
  • No hassle Launch control to remove the slow process of scrolling through Fords menu screens each time
  • Adjustable Launch control RPM using the Accessport to quickly adjust your launch settings to suit the road conditions
  • Revised pops and bangs overrun maps available. No need to be stuck with a loud exhaust when going full throttle now - you can switch to our louder or quieter option

As our understanding of the RS’s engine and ECU improves over time, we will continue to refine and enhance the Stage 1 tune further. Any future Stage 1 ECU improvements will be a free update to existing customers for 12 months.

Stage 2 - 410 bhp / 410 lbft

Our Stage 2 ECU recalibration gives a peak power increase from 350PS (345bhp) to 415PS (410bhp) with torque increasing from 350lbft (474Nm) to 410lbft (522Nm). There's an additional 83bhp over standard at 5,200rpm and torque increases everywhere you need it most, with 80lbft @ 2,000rpm increasing to 84lbft @ 4,000 rpm, thanks to the improved engine breathing and cool charge provided by the revised intercooler. Our Stage 2 map has been honed on our own Black Focus RS on roads and tracks across Europe to ensure the very best setup.

Package includes:

  • Upgraded intercooler for reduced intake temperatures and pressure drop
  • Turbo back Remus stainless steel free flowing exhaust system with unique 100-cell sports CAT downpipe
  • Significantly increased power and torque over Stage 1
  • Reduced lag with faster throttle response
  • Improved driveability
  • Pre-loaded Maps for easy of use
  • 3 Switchable Maps using the cruise controls for instantly changing between between UK grade 95 Unleaded, 97 Octane Super Unleaded and 99 Octane Tesco Momentum / Shell V-Power Nitro
  • Anti-Theft Mode to help secure your pride and joy
  • No hassle Launch control to remove the slow process of scrolling through Fords menu screens each time
  • Revised pops and bangs overrun maps available. No need to be stuck with a loud exhaust when going full throttle - you can switch to our louder or quieter option

The price below includes fitting and customers are welcome to stay in our waiting area or borrow a courtsey car while the work is completed. Any future Stage 1 and 2 ECU improvements will be a free update to existing customers for 12 months.

  • No hassle launch control - Enabled on all our calibrations, this features allows for easy use of the launch control system. Once our calibration file is flashed onto the vehicle, the process of getting into launch mode is simply having the clutch pedal and accelerator pedal depressed fully. The vehicle should quickly raise engine speed to the determined RPM set in the calibration file. These values can adjusted live using the Accessport.
  • Flat foot shifting - Enabled on our latest calibrations, this features allows the accelerator pedal to stay fully depressed while shifting the vehicle. The use of the clutch pedal will still be necessary, but keeping the accelerator pedal fully depressed between shifts allows for the turbo to stay spooled between gears.
  • 5 Way map switching - This feature enables users to switch between map slots on the fly. Once a new calibration file is flashed onto the vehicle, the end user can use the factory cruise control system to switch between different maps. The number of available maps is adjustable with Accesstuner software and we provide 3 maps based on Fuel Octance which are switchable in real-time. Additional map slots can be provide during custom tuning for things like. Custom tuned calibrations can contain up to 5 switchable maps.

FOCUS RS III SUSPENSION KIT

Litchfield KW Focus suspension

Litchfield Suspension Kit by KW

Litchfield has been working closely with world-renowned suspension manufacturer KW, to produce a unique suspension package to improve both the ride and handling of the Focus RS mk III.

Having our own development vehicles has allowed us to experience the standard car’s setup in daily driving, fast road and in track conditions. We felt we could significantly improve the ride quality and enhance the already superb track manners of the RS.

Designed from the outset to work with the RS’s switchable damper settings, the new Litchfield suspension kit will allow the driver to switch from the more comfortable road setting to the stiffer track setting in exactly the same way as the original system. However now the track mode has more compliance, allowing it to be more suitable for fast road driving as well as circuit work.

The development work included sending our MY17 Focus RS to Germany where the KW team could evaluate the original setup on the road and on their 7-post rig. This special F1-grade testing equipment, one of only 15 in the world, allows the engineers to simulate all kinds of driving conditions and suspension frequencies to fully understand the RS’ chassis. A team from Litchfield then flew over to test the first sample kit.

The car's comfort level is now much higher in the ‘Normal’ mode. The new damper and spring rates control the body movement superbly whilst allowing the tyres to find more grip under cornering and acceleration.

Switching into ‘Track’ mode still keeps a level of adjustment which means that it is able to ride bumps rather than skipping off them.

To refine the system further, KW have provided additional development kits featuring minor revisions following our road test feedback. We have begun testing these new revisions back to back on our two development cars to find the perfect combination that will be unique to the Litchfield suspension kit.

Focus RS test cars

KW have begun to produce the key hardware for the initial order and we have signed off on the finished setup at the end of May, with production kits versions available late August. As such we are now taking pre-order deposits as initial production will be limited.

If you have any questions or require more information please contact us to see how we can improve your Ford Focus RS.
