Servicing Recommendations

Service intervals for the 2008-2010 GT-Rs we set by Nissan at every 6,000 miles or 6 months (whichever comes sooner) with the main performance Optimisation Service being completed every 12 months or 12,000 miles. The 2011+ Model Year GT-Rs follow a different service schedule which is every 12 months or 9,000 miles (whichever comes sooner). These are Nissan’s requirements but with many cars out of warranty we can tailor a bespoke service package to suit your usage.

GT-R Genuine Parts and Correct Fluids

Engine Oil

During servicing the Nissan GT-R we only use genuine Nissan parts and oil that is recommended or exceeds the Manufacturers standards. For example, the GT-R's VR38 engine with its plasma-sprayed bores has been developed to run on Mobil 1 (0W-40) fully synthetic high performance engine oil. For higher performance engines or cars that see track time we would recommend using the Castrol 10w-60 Supercar oil which offers both improved lubrication and protection in extreme use. We carry both oils specifically for GT-R servicing.

Gearbox Oil

We use Pentosin FFL4 in the GT-R gearbox unless the car is used on track or for competition use, in which case we recommend using Pentosin R fluid. The GT-R’s GR6 transmission requires the right grade of oil to perform correctly and provide long term reliability. We regularly see gearboxes filled with cheaper and damaging Automatic Transmission fluid (ATF) which will work in the short term but does not provide the full protection required to handle shearing effect the torque transmits through the gear set.

Pentosin is used in the finest supercar dual clutch transmissions and has been the standard fill on our oil changes since we started work on the GT-R where it has performed perfectly.

Differential Oil

The differential fluid we use is the same as the original Nissan fill for the 2008-2010 cars which is Castrol Syntrax. We also carry the Motul/Nismo Competition Gear 75w140 Diff oil for those with the later 2011+ models or for cars that see harder use.

Brake fluid

We use Brembo's excellent DOT 5.1 brake fluid as our standard replacement fluid but for cars that see hard use on track we also carry Castrol SRF Brake fluid for the ultimate pedal feel and consistency.

For those doing track days, we can tailor your service to include any extras you may need such as additional transmission fluid changes or a laser alignment and optimisation. Give us a call to discuss your next pre or post track day checks and service.

R35 GT-R PERFORMANCE OPTIMISATION INSPECTIONS

In addition to the regular maintenance recommended by NISSAN, the GT-R requires the following inspections on a yearly basis:

Transmission Clutch settings

The design of the GTR's clutch and transmission requires inspection and adjustment of the clutch and shift forks at the Nissan recommended intervals. Depending on driving conditions, more frequent adjustments may be necessary to help maximize vehicle performance. Some owners report poor shift and transmission performance at low vehicle speeds. This alignment procedure can help improve or remove this.

Wheel Alignment

After what Nissan terms as the suspension components "break-in", the GT-R's wheel alignment needs to be checked and adjusted every year as part of the Optimisation service. The GT-R is very susceptible to wheel alignment changes which will reduce chassis performance and will increase tyre wear.

At Litchfield we have two of the top of the range Hunter Elite Alignment Machines which allows accurate measurement and subsequent adjustment of the chassis settings. Combined with our depth of knowledge on all types of GT-R geometry settings we are able to advise our customers on which of our custom settings will provide the best performance balance in-terms of handling, stability and tyre life.

Engine MAF Sensor balancing (balancing of air flow for left and right banks)

Each cylinder bank on the GT-R engine operates independently due to the vehicle's twin turbocharger design. As such each side of the engine must operate at the same level of performance. The output of each bank must be checked and adjusted as necessary. Our diagnostic equipment allows us to perform this task.

Litchfield Vehicle Health Checks (VHC)

Every car that is serviced at Litchfield receives a full vehicle health check. The service technician spends around half an hour on each car and electronically logs any faults, with photos or video. The health check is then automatically uploaded to our cloud-based service database system and added to the vehicle service. Even if you are not on site, we can show you photos or video of any faults found.

As the UK's leading R35 GT-R specialist, we have intimate knowledge of these vehicles and can often spot minor issues before they turn into major problems. The health check builds on this knowledge with a specific version tailored for the GT-R. Once fully informed, customers can then choose to rectify any faults or plan for the future.

Litchfield Passport

When it comes to maintaining, collecting and eventually selling cars, history and provenance are everything. Being able to showcase whom has taken care of your car, to what standard and expenditure, will ultimately have a huge bearing on the car’s future desirability and resale value. It’s why we introduce the Litchfield Passport. This is so much more than just your collated service history, but a detailed record of all the work we have done on your vehicle, from routine maintenance and repairs, through to power graphs and upgrades. A complete narrative that outlines every penny spent and every task lovingly undertaken. Not only a wonderful record and memento for you, but a powerful sales tool should you ever wish to sell the car in the future.
