Since early 2008 we have pioneered a range of performance upgrades for the R35 Nissan GT-R. These upgrade packages have received critical acclaim not because we chase higher numbers, but because we believe in pushing for a better, more rewarding driving experience.
In 2014 we opened our custom built Dyno and workshop so we can continue to develop and refine our upgrades in-house.
We offer a number of different Stages with each designed to progress the performance of the GTR. Below we have outlined the changes required for each stage. However, Litchfield like to offer a bespoke service and each Stage can be tailored to your personal requirements. Please feel free to contact us with any questions that you have.
Our original minimum stage power levels have now been further lifted with the Version 8 mapping.
Our Stage 1 upgrade brings out the full benefit of the Y-pipe and incorporates a recalibration of the GT-Rs engine management system. This recalibration will releases significantly more power and transforms the way the GT-R performs, without pushing the limits of Nissan's original engine parameters.
Stage 1 vs Standard

Our Stage 2 upgrade features the Y-pipe and the rest of the Litchfield performance exhaust system which replaces the restrictive standard rear silencer. To further improve the engine's breathing the paper intake filters are replaced with free flowing K&N units. These filters not only aid performance but are also washable to ensure consistent performance over time.
Combined with our unique ECU recalibration this upgrade lifts performance to an incredible 610bhp. The Stage 2 upgrade is our most popular upgrade after the initial Y-pipe.
Our Stage 3 upgrade uses our larger Performance Intake kit. This kit features our large capacity cone filters (as used by the latest British Touring Cars) which receive cold air from behind the front bumper. Smooth Mandel bent pipe work ensures great air flow around the whole of the filter to allow the engine to breathe as freely as possible.
At power levels over 620bhp, the standard fuel injectors will be at 100% duty so the stage 4 kit features our larger 1,100cc injectors to ensure the engine receives the correct amount of fuel. These Bosch Motorsport based injectors have a superb spray pattern so fuel consumption and driveability are as good, if not better, than the standard OEM 570cc injectors. Stage 4 retains the original Catalytic convertors for emissions compliance on the road.
The Stage 4 Power upgrade includes:
Removing the restriction from OEM Catalytic Convertors allows us a bring in power a little earlier and create a little more at the top end, adding decat downpipes to the stage 4 package gives a noticeable increase in performance and noise.
Installing DE-CAT pipes is for Motorsport use only as the car will not be emissions compliant for road use. We also have the option of installing our High Flow Sport CAT Y-pipe which will still allow for the extra performance by using twin large diameter Sports CATs which will keep emissions compliance should your competition rules require it. These are the same specification fitted to our Championship winning 2022 Time Attack GT-R (Catalytic convertors are required by UK Time Attack rules).
The Stage 4.25 Power upgrade includes:
Stage 4.5 is designed to cater for the customer looking for the next step without all the associated costs. Our Stage 4.5 package takes power to 700bhp with a carefully selected turbo combination and high flow fuel pumps in addition to the normal Stage 4 upgrades.
Installing DE-CAT pipes is for Motorsport use only as the car will not be emissions compliant for road use. We also have the option of installing our High Flow Sport CAT Y-pipe which will still allow for the extra performance by using twin large diameter Sports CATs which will keep emissions compliance should your competition rules require it. These are the same specification fitted to our Championship winning 2022 Time Attack GT-R (Catalytic convertors are required by UK Time Attack rules).
Combining these upgrades allows the engine to develop a comfortable extra 60bhp over Stage 4 whilst still retaining fantastic response and driveability. The high flow fuel pumps deliver more than enough capacity whilst remaining silent and keeping fuel temperature down.
Power now extends all the way to the redline, offering a much larger power band.

Whilst the engine is removed we can also easily install our Super Stock Intercooler which will allow power to increase to around 740bhp
Whilst the engine is removed to fit the new turbos we would recommend also fitting an LM front limited slip differential, saving a huge 8 hours labour over fitment with the engine in situ. Please read more about the differential here.
Stage 5 is where things really take off and represent the safe power level achievable on the standard engine with up to an incredible 775bhp available!
Key to this stage is the use of our advanced Borg Warner EFR turbo cores which offer incredible response and power. We were the first in the world to utilise the EFR turbos in the GT-R application, immediately recognising the advantage the latest turbo design delivers.
The 6758 EFR turbos use their unique Gamma Titanium turbine wheel with a lightweight billet compressor wheel. This cutting edge design means that these turbos can not only flow enough air for over 900bhp but can also spool quicker than the considerably smaller standard units.
Along with the larger turbos we also install our larger Race intercooler and intake kit to allow the engine to breathe more easily. Testing has shown that higher power levels the standard intercoolers can become overwhelmed. After considerable testing (see here) our Race Intercooler design significantly increases the dimensions as well as using a 1,200bhp+ proven core to improve the cooling ability and reduce the pressure loss.
Combined with our stainless steel exhaust system the standard engine is able to breathe cool, unrestricted air through turbos that are working well within their efficiency range and an intercooler setup that is designed for double the power and can outlet it through an exhaust with the minimum restriction.
